Train commuters travelling from Vereeniging to Johannesburg were on Friday morning left stranded and frustrated. This after commuters were told about a disruption of Metrorail services along the corridor in question due to a violent service delivery protest in the troubled area of Boiketlong in Sebokeng, south of Johannesburg.

Metrorail spokesperson Tony Games confirmed the temporary suspension of services, adding that they are monitoring the situation. Meanwhile the protest action follows hot on the heels similar demonstrations from the nearby areas of Orange Farm and Drieziek on Monday as well as on Tuesday.

During last weekend’s IEC voter registration drive, disruptions were experienced due to protests in Kapok and Hopeville, also in the south of Johannesburg.
