The Thabo Mbeki Foundation gave the ANC Women’s League (ANCWL) serious toung lashing on Wednesday night.
“Lies have never saved anyone because lies have short legs!” the foundation said in a statement released on Facebook. This is in response to ANCWL’s allegation that Mbeki was the one who formally introduced the controversial Gupta family to president Jacob Zuma.
“The Gupta Family formally introduced by our then President Thabo Mbeki to President Jacob Zuma remains a mystery as to the unfair amount of attack they are facing, even after allowing the invasions of many institutions such as the Oppenheimer’s, the Rupert’s and the Barclays to continue to gain resources of our beloved state,” said the ANCWL.
The foundation dismissed this claim, calling on the league to refer to Mbeki’s statement issued two days ago.
“We have noted today’s statement of the African National Congress Women’s League (ANCWL) issued by the League’s Secretary General, Meokgo Matuba, in which, as is the right of the ANCWL, the organisation faithfully and dutifully defends the Gupta family among other personalities. In doing so, the ANCWL repeats the baseless allegation that President Mbeki “formally introduced” the family to President Jacob Zuma,” the foundation said.
“We would like to refer anyone who might be interested in the matter to a statement we issued two days ago on April 11, 2016 in which we refuted the allegation.”
“The only thing we would like to add, which we hope the Secretary General and the entire leadership of the ANCWL will internalise, is that lies have never saved anyone because lies have short legs!”
