Parents could not proceed with registration on Monday as the Gauteng Department of Education Portal shut down the entire day.

The department had urged parents whose children are going to Grade 1 and 8 and also those whose children were relocating or changing schools to apply online this year.
However, on Monday, most parents were left frustrated as they said they could not load any information on the system.

The departmental acting spokesperson Oupa Bodibe said the department  had trouble processing an influx of registration applications, forcing it to suspend the process.
However, Bodibe also assured parents that the shit down of the online applications would not affect the final application process.
On Sunday, Gauteng MEC for education assured parents that the portal was aimed at saving time for those who are in different provinces and for parents who needed to go to work.
The process is the first and only in country – most provinces are still using manual applications.

Bodibe  promised that the technical issues would be fixed by Wednesday.
