Matjila, who is also the ANC’s Greater Tshwane regional deputy secretary, was charged with contravening some rules of the constitution of the ANC.

The City of Tshwane’s Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Roads and Transport, George Matjila, has been expelled from the ANC after he was found guilty of masterminding a plan to disrupt the ANC Youth League regional conference.

Matjila’s expulsion was announced by the chairperson of the ANC’s Gauteng Provincial Disciplinary Committee (PDC), Mondli Gungubele, in Johannesburg, on Monday. He said Matjila, who is also the ANC’s Greater Tshwane regional deputy secretary, was charged with contravening some rules of the constitution of the ANC.

“As a senior member of the ANC, he (Matjila) ought to know better and be equally conversant with the ANC constitution and its applicable prescripts,” said Gungubele.

“His conduct should be exemplary and beyond reproach. He has been found guilty of serious acts of misconduct and the fact that he is a senior member does not accrue his favour. In fact, it aggravates the charges he has been found guilty of.”

The ANCYL conference that was disrupted took place at the Roodevallei Conference Centre in Pretoria in August 2014.

Gungubele said Matjila had 14 days to appeal his expulsion in the ANC, adding he would remain in his two positions pending the outcome of the appeal.
