Police in Germiston, on the East Rand, are yet to make any arrests following the brutal murder of an elderly woman last week.
The 75-year-woman was on Thursday stabbed in the stomach and had both her ears and her nose cut off. Her left eye was also cut out, Germiston City News reported.
“The woman’s daughter and son-in-law left the house at about 8am that morning and when they returned at about 5pm they found her dead.
“It is suspected that the man they had picked up at the corner to do work in their home is the murderer as he has subsequently disappeared.” Germiston police spokesperson Captain Geroge Raphulu said.
Raphulu said that it appears nothing had been taken from the house and the motive for the murder was unknown.
Police are also investigating the possibility of rape as the woman was found half naked.
