The dead body of a woman in her twenties was found laying in the tall grass on the corner of Hendrick Potgieter and Cascades roads in Roodepoort, Johannesburg on Good Friday.
SAPS were alerted by a Checkers employee that noticed the body in the grass on 25 March, Roodepoort Northsider reported.
EC Security and BCI Protection Services were on scene after being called by concerned viewers.
According to SAPS Provisional Communications Officer, Major Mack Mngomezulu confirmed that SAPS were called to the scene by a local security guard. “Her body was found half naked, the officers suspect that she was first raped and then murdered,” added Major Mngomezulu.
He could not confirm how she was murdered but that a case of murder and rape has been opened at the Honeydew police station.
The devastated family of the deceased were on scene mourning over the loss of their sister, ‘Brenda’.
According to a neighbour of the family, she was walking home from work on 24 March and was attacked at around 7pm.
The deceased family member (who asked to remain nameless) was seen picking up the deceased’s handbag and various other items strewn across the ground.
A friend of the family said that she had clearly put up a fight as her earring, some money and a lighter was found a couple feet away from where the body was found.
A large framed cracked mirror was found on the scene that some suggested was used in the attack.
It is unclear at this time what the reason for the attack was, due to the fact that her handbag, some groceries and her purse were still on scene.
