Two people were seriously injured when a truck and a car collided at 2.30am, said Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha.

At roughly the same time, 12 people were hurt when a taxi hit a truck on the other side of the road, he said.

The Jaws-of-Life had to be used to free two passengers from the wreckage.

They and another passenger were seriously injured. The rest sustained minor injuries.

All the injured were taken to nearby hospitals, Botha said.
