Agriculture Minister Senzeni Zokwana again said gov would not declare the drought a national disaster.

SA’s agricultural sector has so far accrued losses in the region of R16 billion as a result of a drought that continues to devastate farm lands across the country.

The statement by government’s economic sectors, employment and infrastructure development cluster was handed out at a media briefing by various government ministers in Parliament.

During motions without notice DA MP John Steenhuisen heckled the EFF speaker Phillip Mhlongo saying he needed to take his medicine.

This prompted a furore in the house with the Mhlongo vehemently and angrily arguing that Steenhuisen was not a doctor and therefore could not make any statements on his health.

Mhlongo also charged that a white MP had called him a “piece of sh*t”.

Minister of Finance Pravin Gordhan is set to miss the debate on the Budget scheduled to take place on Wednesday in Parliament as he is abroad on an investor roadshow.

National Treasury confirmed on Monday that Gordhan was visiting the United Kingdom and United States this week for discussions with investors, following his annual Budget Speech tabled two weeks ago.

The opposition Democratic Alliance (DA) in Parliament was not happy about this.
