Well-known Pietermaritzburg property developer Jack Maistry died in the early hours of Friday morning.  It is believed the father of three returned home and at some point in the early morning committed suicide by shooting himself, Public Eye reported.

News of Maistry’s untimely death sent shock waves through the community as he was well known and respected for being a young successful entrepreneur who had built a sizeable business portfolio through hard work and perseverance.

Maistry’s friend and business mentor Sunny Gayadin said on Friday that he was shocked and deeply saddened to hear of his friend’s tragic death.

“He was passionate about being an entrepreneur and he worked hard to build up his business from the bottom to new heights. He was thoughtful and caring towards people and he was honest and credible in his dealings. He loved his family. For these reasons we both found friendship in each other and he’ll be terribly missed,” said Gayadin.

Maistry had recently acquired a Seef Property franchise which he felt complimented his property business dealings.

No details have emerged over the possible cause of his suicide. On Thursday evening he attended a meeting at the Victoria Country Club and then later that evening spent a few hours with a friend of his before returning to his home.

Updates and funeral details to follow.
