Corruption: Zuma shifts paradigm

A report by a weekend newspaper claiming one of the reasons President Jacob Zuma believed corruption was only a crime in a “Western paradigm” provides the clearest answer to date as to why under Zuma the scourge has spiralled out of control.

According to City Press, in his 2009 written representations to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Zuma was convinced criminal charges against him relating to the arms deal had to be dropped because corruption was “Western paradigm”.

In his presentation made by his attorney, Michael Hulley, Zuma argued there were no victims in the crime and there was nothing wrong with the loans he had received from his friend Schabir Shaik, who was later convicted.
