Root out teachers abusing children

Reports that hundreds of teachers have been charged with sexually abusing girls are chilling to the bone.

They indicate that about 100 cases of sexual offences involving teachers are reported every year. Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga last week revealed more than 300 teachers faced sanction for sexually abusing pupils over the past three years.

Even more worrying are reports linking school principals, who should lead by example, to this heinous crime. According to The Star yesterday, a school head in Orange Farm was on the run after dozens of pupils at his school accused him of sexual harassment and rape.
