Cheering tyrants who oppress black people

Andrew Kenny.

Why do some black leaders applaud tyrants who oppress black people?

In 1975, Idi Amin, president of Uganda, became chairperson of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU). Amin slaughtered about 300 000 African people, wrecked the Ugandan economy and drove all Asian people out of the country. He got standing ovations whenever he appeared in front of African leaders.

This month, Robert Mugabe, president of Zimbabwe, is expected to become chairperson of the Southern African Development Community. Mugabe slaughtered about 20 000 African people in the eighties. He drove 100 000 black farm workers into destitution in the 2000s. He forced more than 700 000 black people out of their homes in 2005 under Operation Murambatsvina: “Drive out the Rubbish”.
