Scratching Ebola where it don’t itch

The refusal by the Chinese government to allow South Africans entry into their country over fears of Ebola highlights widespread political ignorance about the virus.

This newspaper reported yesterday Chinese authorities were blocking visas for South Africans wishing to travel to their country, owing to paranoia about the deadly disease. This despite South Africa being Ebola-free and the country being at least 5 400km away from any of the West African countries worst-hit by the disease. Europe is 2 000km closer.
