Police priorities are all wrong

Our police have skewed priorities. In the last week they have been deployed to protect, under questionable circumstances, a Lesotho government which has dodgy democratic credentials. What this says about Lesotho's sovereignty is worthy of debate.

There is also much discussion about increasing the role of the police in Parliament, following the fracas last month when Julius Malema’s Economic Freedom Fighters refused to accept President Jacob Zuma’s ducking and diving over the expenditure of R246 million taxpayers’ money on Nkandla. There are now legitimate concerns about the militarisation of Parliament and the blurring of what should be a separation of powers.
