Rats thrive in crowded Alex

One of the more chilling remarks in our report yesterday on the rat problem in Alexandra, Johannesburg, is that Erena Yekanyi will not be the last infant there to be chewed by rodents.

Rats can occur even in plush environments.

For example, last year DA leader Helen Zille tweeted a picture showing how her manicured big toe had been bitten by a rat in the driveway of the Western Cape premier’s official residence, Leeuwenhof.
