Generations: stay tuned to find out

With more than eight million viewers, Generations is Africa's most watched TV show.

With such healthy audience figures, it attracts advertising revenue. Not surprisingly, the actors feel they are significant contributors to the programme’s financial success.

Yet they are apparently underpaid, with some complaining it’s a constant struggle, for example, to try to buy a car. Home mortgages, too, are difficult to come by for those on one-year contracts. These rumblings have been going on for more than a year, if you include the build-up to last year’s strike in October. The off-screen dramas have almost been worthy of soapie status.
