The only reason why dodgy politicians perpetuate this with impunity is that we are led by a party that tolerates deceit by public representatives.
Take, for example, the shameless dishonesty of former ANC chief whip Stone Sizani. He was quoted as saying the ANC parliamentary caucus had always wanted President Jacob Zuma to pay back the money for Nkandla and that the ANC in parliament always supported Public Protector Thuli Madonsela.
How someone in such a powerful leadership position can get away with such blatant lies is a mystery. It is the ANC in parliament under Sizani’s stewardship that performed every trick in the book not only to defend Zuma, but to ensure that he doesn’t cough up even a cent on the millions of rands spent on nonsecurity features to his Nkandla private home.
Sizani, who quit his position last week, is reported to be taking a diplomatic posting to Germany. It has become a disturbing culture by the ruling party to appoint tainted individuals within its ranks as ambassadors.
It is a scandal of monumental proportions that South Africans should be represented abroad by individuals without honour.
