Flash flooding in southwest France claims 13 lives

After a bout of heavy rainfall and flash floods, the River Aude in southwest France has claimed 13 lives.

Emergency services have urged residents to stay inside their homes. A red alert has also been issued by local authorities.

The region last saw floods of this magnitude more than 100 years ago, reports BBC and weather monitoring service Vigicrues.

An area reported floodwater rising to a staggering 7 metres.
