9/11 – The day air travel changed forever

14 years since the attacks on the twin towers in New York, we all still feel the effects it has had on air travel. 9/11 changed the world.

September 11, 2001 is a day that changed the world forever. America came under attack from Al-Qaeda and the rest is history. Of course, America has not suffered the worst at the hands of extremists who continue to terrorise millions of people around the world.

Today, on the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, we look back on the news footage of the time and relive how the story was portrayed in real time to people around the world. The relevance for us, sitting on the southern tip of the great continent of Africa, is that we all still feel the effects of this day every time we climb aboard an airplane. Gone are the days where people believed you needed a gun to hijack a plane. Cockpits are locked and sealed. Security is so strict in certain parts of the world it is uncomfortable. However, it is what it is, it is the new world and this is why:
