Paedophiles: how safe are your children?

In the digital age people are able to prey on young children like never before. Paedophiles are able to use Facebook and other social media accounts to literally get into your homes. This experiment is terrifying.

As a parent, there can surely be no bigger fear than your little girl or boy falling victim to a sick adult. A video is doing the rounds on whatsapp that takes this fear and, frankly, justifies it.

Educating children about the dangers of social media is a priority for any school or parent, but are your efforts paying off? Young teens are spending more and more of their time on their smartphones and this has given sick people an opportunity to get closer than ever before.

Coby Persin is a Youtube personality and one of his videos is haunting and terrifying in equal measure. With the permission of three parents, he created a fake Facebook account and made friends with their daughters, aged 12, 13 and 14. Within three days he had groomed the girls enough to get them to leave their homes and meet him. One girl even opens the front door to her house when she thinks her dad is sleeping, “as boys are not allowed over”. That is not even the worst of it.

While the entrapment nature of the video leaves a somewhat uncomfortable taste, it certainly proves its point. Also, watching the parents’ behaviour and anger may well speak to how we all connect with our children. Just as these three girls were taught a valuable lesson, all parents watching this video are taught one too: never take for it granted that your child is immune.

Is this supposed to scare you and take away your child’s freedom entirely? No. But it is a reality check of just how easy it is to lose the little souls who make life worth living.
