Zuma sends condolences to Iran on passing of ex-president Rafsanjani

Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani passed away on Sunday at the age of 82.

President Jacob Zuma on Monday, conveyed a message of condolence to the Iranian government after the passing of former president Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, the department of international relations and cooperation said

Rafsanjani, aged 82, passed away on Sunday.

“South Africa acknowledges President Rafsanjani’s pioneering spirit in establishing stronger trade and political ties with African countries and South Africa in particular during his term as the President of Iran,” Zuma said in a statement.

Zuma said the people of South Africa share the loss of the Iranian people and stand with them in this time of grief and mourning.
