The news broke this morning on Facebook that Karabo Mokoena, who went missing since the April 28, has been killed and burned by a man apparently close to her, though the closeness of their relationship has yet to be confirmed.
The young woman has been trending on social media all week. Friends and those who knew of her posted her pictures, asking that the message be spread to help them find her. On Thursday morning, Stephanie Long, Karabo’s friend again took to Instagram to share the heartbreaking news.
“I posted this on the morning of the 29th not realizing that you were taken from me a few hours before. I loved you, you were more than a friend to me. I’m heart broken, how could they take u away from me RIP KayFab,” she wrote.
An outpouring of moving messages of condolences from celebrities, friends as well as people on social media have come in for Karabo.
Local celebrities and tweeps were angered and saddened at the way Mokoena allegedly died. Karabo’s tragic death had people questioning women’s safety in society and started the hashtag #MenAreTrash.
“Men continue to be our greatest threat, our worst enemy,” tweeted Boity Thulo.
In support of Boity’s statement, Maps Maponyana and Thandiswa Mazwai took to Twitter to share their thoughts on why they think men are trash.
“We cannot argue this anymore, we really are trash,” said Maps.
“Men are monsters,” said Mazwai
The man who murdered Karabo was reportedly arrested on Thursday morning.
