Brave woman fights off robber in KZN

A 24-year-old Botha’s Hill woman bravely fought with and tried to arrest a brazen robber at her home in Zulu Reserve Road in KwaNyuswa yesterday, Highway Mail reports.

Blue Security spokesperson Andreas Mathios said armed response officers responded to an alarm activation at her home at about 11.30am.

A traumatised Ruth Carpenter had just confronted the robber, who had cheekily invaded her family home repeatedly after an initial confrontation with her on the property earlier in the day.

“The robber entered the house through an open door where he had a scuffle with the resident, but he managed to evade capture and fled with handbags and a wallet. Several local residents gave chase but he also managed to evade them by running around to the side of the house to the kitchen door,” said Mathios.

He had earlier already removed a flat screen television from the house and placed it outside under a carport.

“Residents gave up chasing him thinking he had run into nearby bushes, and he again slipped into the house and grabbed a laptop and hard-drive.”

“But as he tried to flee with the stash of stolen goods that he had lined up outside under the carport, he was again confronted by the young woman, who put up a fight and tried to arrest him. He managed to evade her efforts to detain him and fled the scene on foot,” added Mathios.

Mathios said the woman sustained minor bruising injuries but had declined medical treatment.

A case of house robbery was opened at Hillcrest police.
