“DJ Sbu has to take responsibility of his utterances and make a public apology.”-Mathebula

Sibusiso Leope, also known to many as DJ Sbu, was on Sunday barred from promoting his energy drink, Mofaya by some students from the Vaal University of Technology (VUT).

Speaking to The Citizen on Monday morning, president of the Student Representative Council (SRC) at VUT, Troy Mathebula said the reason why DJ Sbu was turned away, was because of controversial remarks attributed to him about Limpopo people being “Ibhari”-meaning fools.

“DJ Sbu has to take responsibility of his utterances and make a public apology or else he will never be allowed to come and promote his energy drink here.

“We do not have a problem with DJ Sbu, but we have a problem with what he said about people coming from Limpopo, and whenever he is ready to come and apologise, that is when he will be allowed to come and promote his energy drink,” Mathebula said.

Meanwhile DJ Sbu said at the time he was quoted out of context and that he did not mean to harm anyone.

However it appeared not all students were happy with the weekend’s events.

Somebody posted on Facebook: “So just because of some comment that DJ Sbu made maybe years ago or whenever, the EFFsc will stop him from entering the VUT premises? 😂 Gaad! I really don’t believe that he has to apologize to anyone, especially not to you. He is entitled to say what he likes, right?-stevent@citizen.co.za
