A 19-month-old girl was dropped out of a vehicle while inside a plastic bag yesterday in Kensington, Johannesburg.

Jeppe police spokesperson Constable Richard Munyayi said a security guard noticed a motorist dropping a suspicious plastic bag next to the street before driving off, Joburg East Express reported.

“The security guard went to see what was inside the bag. He noticed that there was something moving in it and called the police,” added Munyayi.

The child was reportedly wrapped in a plastic bag before being dropped, and was spotted by the guard when the bag she was in started moving.

Following her rescue, the child was handed to the Jeppe police station. She was then taken to hospital.

“After the medical examination, the child was taken to a place of safety where she is recovering. She is doing well,” Munyayi said.

A case of attempted murder and child abandonment has been opened.

Munyayi urged anyone who can assist the police in locating the child’s relatives or find the person who left her on side of the road, to contact the Jeppe Police Station on 011 624-6060/6000.
