Three men tied the couple up, ransacked the house and stabbed them to death before fleeing.

Investigations are ongoing after an elderly couple was stabbed to death on Monday in KwaMbonambi, KwaZulu-Natal.

The victims, David, 76, and Anne, 73, Strauss were attacked in their home by three men, who tied them up, ransacked the house and stabbed them to death before fleeing.

Police were led to the scene by a suspect they had arrested on an unrelated matter, Zululand Observer reported.

After searching him and finding a wallet and ID documents belonging to David in his possession, investigators grew suspicious and questioned him.

The suspects had taken a number of items from the home, including David’s firearm as well as their car.

KwaMbonambi police station commander Major Bonginkosi Gumede confirmed that another two suspects had fled from the vehicle when approached by police.

“But we will get them, I have no doubt,” he said.

In a separate incident, a couple was shot on the side of the road after their car broke down on the N12 highway in Gauteng early this month.

While returning home from holiday on New Year’s Day, Ludwig, 48, and Su-Mari, 51, Pieterse’s car broke down on the N12 highway, near the Voortrekker Road off-ramp in Alberton.

While waiting in the emergency lane for breakdown services an unknown man apparently appeared and demanded valuables from the couple. Shortly thereafter he opened fire at the couple and ran away, taking only a cellphone.
