It is alleged the suspect made his way to Edenvale to open a case of assault at about 2.30pm on Thursday. When police saw his registration number on the system and a warrant for his arrest was issued, they promptly arrested the man. He was transferred to Roodepoort Police Station, Roodepoort Record reported.

The suspect was driving behind the victim on Ontdekkers Road at about 11.30am on Wednesday. Suddenly, he allegedly lost his temper and followed her. She turned into CR Swart Drive, and at the entrance of Wilrogate Shopping Centre he stopped behind her.

According to a family member, the man allegedly got out of his vehicle and approached the woman’s vehicle in an aggressive fashion. The woman also got out with a baseball bat in order to defend herself. The man fled the scene but then ran her over and drove on.

The woman’s leg was broken just above her ankle at a 45-degree angle. She was transported to the Krugersdorp Private Hospital.

Roodepoort police spokesperson Warrant Officer Nonhlanhla Khumalo confirmed the 27-year-old suspect was arrested and remanded in police custody. He will appear in court on July 27 facing a charge of reckless and negligent driving.
