A woman’s leg has been broken after she was allegedly run over by a car during a suspected road rage incident in Roodepoort, on the West Rand.

The incident happened after a man was driving behind the victim on Ontdekkers Road at about 11.30am on Wednesday. Suddenly, he lost his temper and followed her. She turned into CR Swart Drive, and at the entrance of Wilrogate Shopping Centre he stopped behind her, Roodepoort Record reported.

According to a family member, the man allegedly got out of his vehicle and approached the woman’s vehicle in an aggressive fashion. The woman also got out with a baseball bat in order to defend herself. The man fled the scene but then ran her over and drove on.

The woman’s leg was broken just above her ankle at a 45-degree angle.

ER24 spokesperson Pieter Rossouw confirmed the incident, saying: “Paramedics responded to scene and treated the victim”.

Rossouw could not divulge on the condition of the victim, but said she was rushed to Krugersdorp Private Hospital.

Roodepoort police spokesperson Warrant Officer Nonhlanhla Khumalo told The Citizen she was not aware of the incident. However, in such an instance, the victim should open a case for police to investigate.

In May, a man was shot and killed in an apparent road rage incident in Bonaero Park, Kempton Park, on the East Rand.

Kempton Park police spokesperson Captain Jethro Mtshali said two motorists were allegedly engaged in an argument on the corner of Carp and Daeraad streets at about 7.30am.

During the argument, one motorist allegedly fired a shot, fatally wounding another one, added Mtshali. The suspect, 45, was arrested on the scene and appeared in the Kempton Park Magistrates’ Court facing a murder charge.
