A 27-year-old man is expected to make an appearance in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court today for allegedly raping his own sister.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya said the man’s 29-year-old sister arrived home in Kagiso, in Krugersdorp, on the West Rand, during the early hours of Sunday morning, but his other sister refused to let her in the room to sleep, Krugersdorp News reported

The suspect, who was in a nearby room, overheard the argument and offered his sister to use his bed, as he was sleeping on the couch.

“He then went to his bed a few minutes later and started undressing his sister. When she questioned his actions, the suspect allegedly covered her face with a pillow and raped her,” Sibiya said.

“She then reported the matter to the police, where after he was searched and arrested.”

A case of rape has since been opened at the Kagiso Police Station, where he is detained until his court appearance.

In April last year, a Mpumalanga man was jailed for life in the Nelspruit Regional Court for raping his seven-year-old niece.

The incident happened in 2008 after she was left in his care by her elder sister. He was arrested in 2009.

“The child was seven years old at the time. You were 40 years old, about five times older than her. You humiliated her and destroyed her future,” the magistrate, Andre Geldenhuys, said at the time.
