According to the description of the video posted on the Randburg Security Tips YouTube account, the woman had parked on the street to pick up her granddaughter at about 09.15am on Monday. As the woman is strapping the two-year-old into the car, she is approached by two armed suspects, who proceed to point a gun at her and demand car and other valuables.
The woman manages to get the child out of the car before the suspects drive away. This after a suspect was apprehended by a private security company in uMhlanga, north of Durban, after he crashed a hijacked car on Sunday.
The incident was captured by CCTV cameras. In the video, a VW Golf that was reportedly hijacked at a nearby McDonald’s is seen racing down a street before the driver loses control, plowing into the wall of a residential property.
The suspect then abandons the vehicle and flees the scene. A few moments later he is brought back to the scene by reaction officers from Enforce Security Services.
In another incident, a hijacking that took place in Fordsburg, Johannesburg, on Saturday, May 30, was captured by the vehicle’s dashboard camera. In the video, four armed men driving a white VW Jetta with the registration DL65CLGP are seen emerging from the car and approaching the unidentified hijacked vehicle.
