CCTV footage shows a gang of heavily armed men robbing a businessman and firing at community police members in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal.

The incident took place on May 21. In the video, the attackers, armed with pistols and assault rifles, confront and assault businessman Ismail Dhoda in the driveway of his Mountain Rise home, Public Eye Maritzburg reported.

The attacker are seen armed with pistols and AK-47 rifles, with some sporting balaclava hats to conceal their identities, and confidently taking control of the vicinity before proceeding into the property, taking Dhoda with them at gunpoint.

Two community police members, Shameel Ally and Shahin Suleman, were travelling together when Dhoda’s son called and raised the alarm about the armed robbery.

The men rushed to the scene and spotted the attackers and their van parked at Dhoda’s gate. The two then parked their vehicle near Kenilworth Road and exited their vehicle.

“When we rushed to the scene, we had no idea what was waiting for us. We saw cars on either side of the road, and we knew that those vehicles belonged to the suspects. As we started assessing the situation the gang opened fire on us with AK 47s,” Ally said.

The attackers then fled in three vehicles, firing as they drove off. One of the cars was later found abandoned. A manhunt for the suspects continues.
