KwaZulu-Natal wine project opened

KwaZulu-Natal unveiled a R19.5 million wine production project north of Durban on Thursday.

The co-operative governance department said the first harvest obtained from vineyards in the Mandeni and Maphumulo municipalities had seen 28 tonnes of grapes and 8000 litres of wine produced.

The aim was an output of 25 tons per hectare and establishing a viable wine industry in the Illembe district municipality that would boost tourism.

Fifty jobs had been created and a wine processing facility had been built near the KwaZulu-Natal north coast town of Ballito.
