Jaws-of-life were used to extricate survivors.

Two young adults were killed and several other people were injured when a kombi and a minivan collided on the corner of Ontdekkers and Golf Club Terrace roads in Florida Park, Roodepoort in Johannesburg on Friday night, paramedics said.

When ER24 arrived on scene after 11pm, two occupants of the kombi needed to be extricated using the jaws-of-life equipment, ER24 spokeswoman Ineke van Huyssteen said.

Fire services and ER24 paramedics extricated the two people, both of whom were seriously injured.

“Two males from the minivan unfortunately succumbed to their injuries and were declared dead on the scene. Multiple patients from the minivan were assessed and injuries sustained ranged from moderate to serious.”

Various services were on the scene, including the fire department and City of Johannesburg emergency medical services (EMS). The injured people were transported to nearby hospitals for further medical care. The cause of the crash was not yet known, Van Huyssteen said.
