North West farmer arrested for alleged attempted murder

The victim was allegedly shot on the arm on Wednesday.

A 33-year-old farmer was arrested for the alleged attempted murder of an 11-year-old girl at a farm near Swartruggens on Thursday, North West police said.

“The suspect’s arrest follows an incident in which the victim was allegedly shot on the arm on Wednesday, 12 July 2017.  According to information available at this stage, the victim with her friends, allegedly went to the farm to fetch fire wood when the farm owner allegedly shouted and ordered them to stop,” said Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone.

“The girls allegedly ran away into different directions, at that stage, the victim realised that she was bleeding from the left arm.  She immediately reported the incident to her mother on arrival at home, and was rushed d to the hospital for medical treatment. The victim’s parents notified the police of the incident.”

The farmer allegedly handed himself over to the police on Thursday.

“He is expected to appear in the Swartruggens Magistrate’s Court soon facing a charge of attempted murder. “
