Three suspects, who were involved in a shootout with police officers on Friday, have been arrested in Greenstone Hill, police said.
“Today at about 1pm, [South African Police Service] SAPS members from the Crime Intelligence Head Office task team followed up on information which led them to the Edenvale area in Gauteng,” spokesperson Captain Katlego Mogale said.
“The police members, supported by the Gauteng Traffic Saturation Unit, private security and Tracker, observed suspects in the Greenstone Hill area near the Greenstone Mall and approached them.”
Mogale said officers identified themselves and tried to stop the vehicle, and the group opened fire on them and they retaliated.
“Three suspects were wounded and arrested,” she said.
“Two unlicensed firearms and a suspected hijacked vehicle, linked to a Brackendowns case, were recovered on the scene.”
She said the trio were in their twenties and thirties and were taken to hospital for medical attention under police guard.
“Cases of possession of unlicensed firearms as well as possession of suspected hijacked motor vehicle have been opened for investigation.”
The suspects are expected to appear in court soon.
“The South African Police Service has prioritised the trio crimes of house robbery, business robbery and vehicle hijacking and the team is commended on the arrest of these suspects,” Mogale said.
