The man wanted for spates of hijackings and robberies turned gun on himself after police cornered him.

A 37-year-old man wanted for various crimes committed suicide upon realising that he was surrounded by officers, Limpopo police said on Wednesday.

“Police arrived at Muledane village tracing the highly wanted suspect. He was cornered inside a rented house where he was hiding. Police introduced themselves and ordered him to open the door, he refused and subsequently a gunshot was heard from inside the house,” said spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe.

“Police entered the house and found a 37-year-old man lying dead dead with a gunshot wound and the firearm lying next to his body.”

The man was wanted for spates of hijackings, business and house robberies.

“The deceased was positively identified as the most wanted suspect who stayed at Vleifontein village outside Makhado, and wanted for a spate of crimes in and around Makhado, Hlanganani and Thohoyandou areas.”
