A vehicle transporting seven immigrants from the province to Gauteng allegedly got a puncture, lost control and overturned.

A 42-year-old man died when a state vehicle transporting a group of immigrants from Limpopo to Gauteng’s Lindela Repatriation Centre overturned along the N1 near Makhado on Wednesday.

Police spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said a case of culpable homicide was opened.

“The Department of Home Affairs vehicle was transporting seven immigrants from Musina to Lindela in Gauteng when it allegedly got a puncture, lost control and overturned killing one immigrant aged 42 years old instantly. Others sustained serious injuries including two department officials,” Ngoepe said.

Lindela in western Johannesburg is a detention centre for undocumented migrants.
