The Swallows coach has described Wana as a marksman who can earn legendary status at the club and follow players like Siyabonga Nomvethe and Lefa Tsutsulupa.

“I think he is our great signing this season,” Marques, right, said yesterday. He is an intelligent striker with an eye for goal and he packs a good shot.”

Wana scored his second goal for the Dube Birds a week ago against Golden Arrows as Swallows registered their maiden PSL win this year. Tonight against SuperSport United the former Santos player will be handed the responsibility of scoring goals for his club, as experienced strikers Nomvethe and Edward Manqele have struggle to hit top form.

SuperSport come to Dobsonville Stadium carrying the wounds suffered in Tunisia on Saturday after they lost their Confederation Cup first leg match against Etoile du Sahel 1-0. But Marques said Matsatsantsa a Pitori would be looking to bounce back at their expense in this evening’s Nedbank Cup tie.

“Some players may be rested following their trip to Tunisia,” he said. “Given their depth, we cannot expect B team players as there is no such for teams like SuperSport.”

Swallows have failed to make any meaningful challenge for honours this season, but Marques said his side will make it a point to go all the way in the competition as it’s a gateway for playing in other African tournaments.

The match starts at 7.30pm.
