Gauteng govt warns against bogus emails and social media accounts

The provincial government has clarified that Premier David Makhura does not have any social media accounts.

The Gauteng Provincial Government on Thursday said it was concerned about fraudulent emails and social media activities purportedly in the name of provincial Premier David Makhura.

Makhura’s spokesperson, Phumla Sekhonyane, said the provincial government wanted to stress that the premier did not have any social media accounts and did not send emails to people soliciting any donations or investments.

“All information pertaining to the premier’s official activities is updated on the Gauteng Provincial Government’s official media platforms.”

According to Sekhonyane, numerous attempts have been made to solicit money from unsuspecting members of the public using fake accounts and emails, purportedly from Makhura.

“Government is cautioning the public against bogus emails and communication on social media platforms. The matter has been handed over to the South African Police Services for further investigation,” said Sekhonyane.
