Motorists warned of bogus cops at ‘roadblocks’

CNS reporter

Police say the two vehicles belonging to the gang have blue lights on them.

Motorists using the R59 Boy Louw and Vanderbijlpark off-ramp near Vereeniging are urged to be on the lookout for a blue Mercedes Benz Sprinter bus and Marathon bus, both with blue lights.

Police spokesperson Captain Fikile Funda said the two vehicles carried rifles and pistols belonging to a gang pretending to be police officers conducting a “roadblock”, Sedibeng Ster reported.

“These people are hijackers and not police officers. People must be careful because the area is a known hotspot for hijacking.”

Funda further urged community members hiring help to demand personal documents, as the help is commonly involved in house robberies and house break-ins.

“When you hire a person as a gardener, make sure that you have his or her personal particulars. There are cases of house break-ins and theft where gardeners have been implicated.
