Just two days after the start of the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign, a woman was found brutally murdered in Kempton Park, on the East Rand.

“At about 1.30am on Sunday, Kempton police were summoned to the scene in an open veld at the corner of Maxwell and Casuarina streets,” police spokesperson Captain Jethro Mtshali said.

The half-naked body of a woman was found in the veld. It is believed she had been sexually assaulted and then strangled, Kempton Express reported.

“Later police received a tip-off about the whereabouts of an alleged 22-year-old suspect, who was arrested shortly after the incident,” Mtshali said.

He was charged with murder and rape.
