An angry mob attacked a suspected murderer before handing him over to the police in Pretoria West on Thursday.

Police spokesperson captain Augustinah Selepe said the victim suffered serious injuries.

She said the man apparently shot dead Itireleng informal resident Nenzhelele Lutendo, Rekord Moot reported.

“Locals said Lutendo, 34, was at home when an argument ensued between him and the suspect. According to them, the suspect took out a firearm and fired three shots at the deceased,” added Selepe.

It was not immediately clear what the argument was about.

Selepe said when residents heard gunshots, they rushed to Lutendo’s aid.

“They took him to hospital, where he died later.”

Locals then went to the suspected shooter’s house, where they assaulted him before handing him over to the police.

A firearm was also handed to the cops.

The man was taken to Kalafong hospital, where he was being treated under police guard.

Selepe said a murder docket has been opened.
