Police vehicles and a police helicopter were deployed to Chelsea Avenue in Krugersdorp, west of Johannesburg, after an armed robbery and hijacking incident on Thursday morning.
According to reports by Krugersdorp News, police only managed to apprehend one of the four suspects. and the remaining three are still at large after an armed robbery and two attempted hijackings this morning.
Dowry’s High Risk Unit was one of the first on the scene in response to the armed robbery.
Five police vehicles from Krugersdorp, the Gauteng Railway Police, the Social Crime Unit and the K9 Unit responded to the incident.
According to witnesses, the four armed suspects allegedly robbed a neighbour at about 7am. After fleeing the first house, the suspects continued on their crime spree and jumped numerous walls to escape.
It is alleged the suspects also tried to hijack two vehicles before escaping in different directions.
Patrollers from Sector 8 Community Policing Forum apprehended one of the suspects a few houses further down the road after he ran into a property. The property owners trapped him and called for backup.
High police presence still remains visible at this stage, and the search for the remaining three suspects still continues.
