A case of attempted murder has been opened after an on-duty police officer was stabbed several times with a screwdriver following an argument in Knysna, Western Cape on Monday morning.
The incident occurred at about 07:40am in Main Road in front of a local pharmacy and other shops in the town centre, Knysnaplett Herald reported.
According to Knysna police spokesperson, Sergeant Chris Spies, the police officer was called out to the scene after a fight had broken out between two men.
“An argument arose between the policeman and one of the men when one of them stabbed the policeman several times with the screwdriver. The policemen then shot him. Both were rushed to two different Knysna hospitals.”
Spies said it is unknown what caused the argument. Investigation are ongoing.
