KZN woman raped, murdered in cane field

The victim’s underwear and bag were found on the roadside next to the field.

The community of Tongaat in KwaZulu-Natal has been left reeling following the rape and murder of a woman at the weekend.

The woman’s body was found in a cane field in the area after a pedestrian reported that he noticed a handbag lying on the roadside, Phoenix Sun reported.

Following the shocking and heinous incident, cases of rape and murder have been opened for further investigation at the Tongaat police who are currently investigating the case.

Tongaat police spokesperson Warrant Officer Manisha Mari said: “On Sunday morning, the body of a woman was found in the sugarcane field. Her underwear, shoe and handbag were found lying outside the sugarcane field. The deceased sustained injuries to her anus.”

On the day of the incident, security company Reaction Unit South Africa received a call from a male factory worker who informed the controller that he noticed a handbag and packet lying on the roadside while he was on his way to work.

He then noticed that a woman was lying in the sugarcane plantation. He went to his place of work and contacted the local security company.

Reaction officers were dispatched to the factory and picked up the worker, who pointed out the area where he found the bag. They walked into the field and found the body of the victim. She was lying face-up. Paramedics were called and the woman was declared dead on the scene.
