A case of a business robbery has been opened after CCTV footage emerged showing a cash-in-transit security guard being disarmed and robbed of  a bag containing an undisclosed amount of money in Verulam, KwaZulu-Natal yesterday.

Provincial police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane said the guard alleged he was collecting cash at a filling station at about 2:30pm, when he was approached by three men at gunpoint and grabbed his firearm. They took the money, firearm and fled the scene.

“No shot were fire and no injuries were reported. A case of a business robbery was opened at Verulam police station for investigation and no arrests have been made,” added Zwane.

YouTube users raised eyebrows at the reaction of securing guard, suspecting the robbery was planned:

The guard did not display the kind of vigilance or acumen, if you like, that one would expect from someone whose life is in constant danger. He took too long to get into that truck!” a commenter said, while another, Simangaliso Zwane, said the guard looked complicit in the robbery.
