A man has been shot and killed during an alleged robbery at the parking area outside Absa Bank in Chatsworth Centre in KwaZulu-Natal on Monday morning.

According to witnesses at the scene, the man was shot outside his vehicle and the suspects fled in a van which was parked in the parking area as well, Rising Sun Chatsworth reported.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Nqobile Gwala confirmed the incident saying at about 11:35am a man was fatally shot by three unknown men outside a shopping mall at Chatsworth.

He sustained two gunshot wounds on the head and two on the leg. An undisclosed amount of cash was taken by the suspects.

“Charges of murder and robbery have been opened. No arrests have been made at this stage,” added Gwala.

In a separate incident, a man and his dog were shot and killed during an armed robbery in Muldersdrift, Gauteng last month.

According to police, two unknown men entered a house in Old Pretoria Road and pointed a firearm at two victims before ordering them to lie on the ground and demanding money.

The home owner’s dog came into the house and tried to rescue the victims. It was then that the suspect shot and killed the dog.

“The victim stood up trying to fight back and was also shot in the upper body. Paramedics certified him dead on their arrival,” added Ngwenya.
