A 49-year-old woman suffered extensive injuries after she was attacked by a Boerboel at her Verulam home in KwaZulu-Natal on Monday.

At about 8:30am, a team from security company Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were called out to attend to the wounded victim. The woman who is believed to be a tenant at the property, was attacked by the dog while walking on the premises, Phoenix Sun reported.

According to a report issued by RUSA, the woman sustained deep open wounds to her face and hips. Paramedics found the woman lying on the ground and stabilised her. She was then transported to hospital for further medical treatment,” said RUSA.

The victim informed reaction officers that she was surprised that the dog attacked her as she had fed and cared for the dog over a few years.

In a separate incident, a 58-year-old woman was seriously wounded after she was attacked by two dogs in Crestholme, Kloof in KwaZulu-Natal in February.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Glenda Mathe said the woman was trying to protect her dog from being bitten by the two dogs when she was attacked.

Glenda added paramedics stabilised her at the scene and she was taken to a nearby hospital. Her dog, which was also wounded in the attack, was taken to a local vet.
