Cyclist struck by car

The Netcare1 helicopter was dispatched to the scene to airlift the injured man to hospital for further medical care.

A cyclist is in a critical condition after he was struck by a car on Modderfontein Road near the N3 off-ramp, on the East Rand early on Wednesday.

Netcare911 paramedics worked alongside another emergency service on scene to stabilise the injured man, Kempton Express reported.

The Netcare1 helicopter was dispatched to the scene to airlift the injured man to hospital for further medical care.

“The exact detail to the cause of the accident will remain a subject for police investigation,” Athlenda Mathe of Netcare 911 said.

In a separate incident, two cyclists were killed in a car crash on the in Durban on the M4 in February.

Richard da Silva, 46, of Glen Anil and Jared Dwyer, 36, were part of a group of about 30 cyclists from the Kings Park Cycling Club on an early-morning training ride when the incident happened.

In a statement, the club said the group was riding in the yellow demarcated left side of the road when a vehicle travelling at high speed collided with the two rear riders.

The driver of the vehicle, 33, was detained and is currently facing charges of drunken driving and culpable homicide.
