A Correctional Services officer and an alleged gangster appeared on Monday in the Kempton Park Magistrates court on charges of attempting to help Radovan Krejcir to escape, seven counts of corruption and a charge of defeating the ends of justice.
It is understood a charge of conspiring to kill Judge Colin Lamont may also be added to the charge sheet, although the National Prosecuting Authority would not confirm this at court.
Prosecutor Lawrence Gcaba asked for, and received, a postponement to April for further investigation.
Accused 1 Solly Metlae – the Correctional Services member – and accused 2 Sandile Mdumbe both appeared amid tight security and wearing ankle chains.
Metlae is alleged to have guarded Krejcir for months and is believed to have been conspiring to help the Czech Republic citizen escape.
Krejcir’s application for leave to appeal against his sentence and conviction for attempted murder and attempted dealing in drugs is due to be heard this month.
